Summer Special: 2008 Teach in China Short term paid teach placements throughout China. Click here For more details.
Imagine riding a traditional pedicab through the ancient "hutong" areas in Beijing, where you will observe families and neighbors sitting together in courtyards playing Chinese checkers, doing their laundry, and washing fresh vegetables...and a few blocks down you will spot bulldozers and cranes, towering skyscrapers and apartment buildings...then you continue to walk down a street and hear locals karaoke to their heart's content, and one door down, others drink TsingTao while dancing to the latest "U.S. Billboard" pop songs.
Welcome to China! The uniqueness of this country lies in the contrast between its classical, historical culture and its rapid progression towards economic, political and social advancement. For this nation of 1.3 billion people, English has always been a popular foreign language. With increased Western influence and the hosting of 2008's Summer Olympics, the popularity of English is greater than ever, with children, students, professionals and adults all determined to improve their English language skills.
Cultural Embrace offers an exciting and affordable opportunity for native English speakers to live, work, and travel in this fascinating country. Expect to teach an average of 20-35 hours a week, with students ranging from private academies, public elementary and secondary schools, universities, and the professional ranks. China includes English in their school's curriculum at a young age, so most are proficient with English reading and writing, but are shy and embarrassed to practice their conversational skills.
Classroom experience and knowledge of the Chinese language are helpful, but not required. Cultural Embrace includes a 20-unit online TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) course. This course has been designed for maximum flexibility, allowing you to work on your own computer at your own pace. The course has two main components: Teaching Skills and Language Awareness. The Teaching Skills component develops the techniques and skills required in the classroom, while the Language Awareness component provides a solid foundation in English grammar. Alternatively, you can take a 4-week certification program in an internationally recognized TEFL course. These courses are located in China, Thailand, New Zealand, Egypt, France, Spain, Italy, and Costa Rica. There is an extra fee for taking these courses and accommodations can be pre-arranged.
