2009 CHINA Teach Program
Introduction

In today's interconnected global community, what better way to unite than by understanding each other's cultures and languages? English is currently the most widely used and studied language in the world, while Chinese is quickly becoming an international business language. China includes English in their school's curriculum at a young age, so most are proficient with English reading and writing, but many are shy to practice their conversational skills. Help make your students feel more comfortable interacting in your native language, and with the skills that you have learned in Cultural Embrace’s included online TEFL course (optional for summer). With Cultural Embrace's Chinese teach programs, you will gain invaluable, lifelong skills as a result of your experiences with the local people, community, and even yourself!
Cultural Embrace pre-arranges and guarantees a placement prior to departure in popular and beautiful cities throughout China. Popular placements have been along the coastal cities of: Qingdao, Shenyang, Yantai, and Xiamen. Placements are available in Beijing and Shanghai, but they are very competitive due to the population of foreigners living there, and the demand for experienced teachers. Expect to teach an average of 20 hours a week, with students ranging from private academies, public schools, universities, and executives. The Fall semester begins at the end of August/beginning of September, and the Spring semester starts a week or two after the Lunar New Year (~January/February). Most schools request their teachers to be there 1-2 weeks early for orientation and training. 2009's summer program starts around July 7 through August 7.
The average salary is ¥4000/~US$550 - ¥5000/~US$730 per month for full academic semester(s) positions. This is more than double the salary of local professors and it easily covers your local expenses while living in China. Summer teach salary is ¥4000/~US$550 for degree holders. Teachers without a bachelor’s degree may apply for a summer teach position and receive a stipend (up to ¥1000/~US$150) based on experience and demand. Chinese knowledge and classroom experience are helpful, but not necessary. A bachelor's degree is required to get paid, or opt to volunteer in a classroom, which is another affordable way to live and travel in China!
