Do you have experience or currently studying nursing or health care? Want to get paid to work at local hospitals and clinics of the greater Sydney area? This is a great way to get a minimum of AUD2000 per month (~30 hours/week) for up to three months and gain practical work experience. For more details, click Nursing & Health Care in Australia.

Depending on your previous experience, your education, and your English language skills, a variety of employment possibilities await you. Available placements include: hospitality work, manual labor, office work, childcare/domestic, and farm work.  What a wonderful way to earn a local wage, interact and live with the locals, and travel in this beautiful country. Positions are also available throughout Australia and can last anywhere from one day to six months!

Salary and benefits vary with each position. On average, you will be working 8-10 hours per day and receive ~AUD$350/week (~US320). Room and board are available for most placements, but if a job does not include accommodations, your salary will be enough to afford the cost of basic living. You have the option to work and travel to different parts of Australia throughout your program.

Keep in mind that you are eligible for the Work and Holiday or Working Holiday Visa once in your life, so take advantage of it! We offer you an adventure with a peach of mind. Prior to departure, you will communicate closely with our staff from the Austin office, and then once you step foot outside of Sydney's customs hall you will be in great hands with our local partners. Our team will be there to meet and greet you at the airport and take you to a hostel, with two nights included to get over jet lag. After your orientation and training, you will have local representatives that will help, answer questions, and ensure that your stay in Australia is the best it can be. We will set you up in Sydney with all of the necessary tools to secure a work placement in Australia. We are dedicated to finding you employment that complies with the restrictions of your visa. A bank account with an ATM card, tax file number, cell phone/SIM card are all organized for participants and our work-placement team interviews and counsels every candidate to ensure a good match of skills and interests to job opportunities and employers.     After your training, you will be matched to a placement that suits you best. Your experience, training, and preferred location will be considered, based on availability. We guarantee a job offer by day nine.

    Wages are dependant upon many factors including the type of job and your experience and qualifications. The average wage is AUS$350/week (approximately US$270/week)

    Shared housing will be included for your first two nights in Sydney.  Most job placements include room & board. If not, no worries, your salary should be sufficient to live a basic yet comfortable local lifestyle.

TopProgram Requirements 
  • You must be 18-30 (inclusive) years of age (due to visa regulations)
  • You should have recent experience in the field in which you wish to work (e.g. course work, employment experience, training courses)
  • You must have access to a minimum of AUD$1000 while in Australia. This minimum amount does not have to be entirely in cash - traveler’s checks, ATM, and debit/credit cards may also be presented. You are required to show that you have immediate access to funds via bank accounts or parental help (this is for visa purposes)

1. Obtain the Work Abroad Application Forms & Procedures documents in one of three ways:

(a) Download the forms:  Work Form (PDF).   Work in Australia Details and FAQ (PDF)

(b) Fill out an online application request form and the forms will be mailed to you within 7-10 days.

(c) Call Cultural Embrace at 1-512-469-9089 or 1-888-214-8570 (US toll-free) to have the forms mailed to you in 7-10 days. 

2. Read the instructions carefully and complete all forms.

3. Submit your completed application packet to:

  • Work Program Application
  • Signed Work  Agreement
  • Copy of your passport (information page only)
  • University/College transcript (official please)
  • Copies of diploma or certificates related to field of interest (if applicable)

  • Cover Letter explaining what you want to do in Australia and why you think you are capable of handling this type of work
  • Two References: preferably professional and/or character references
  • Doctor’s Certificate verifying that you are in excellent mental and physical health
  • Copy of Police Clearance (obtainable from your community's local police station) 
  • Four 1½" x 2" official passport-size photos, signed on the back
  • One smiling full-length photo of yourself
  • US$200 non-refundable deposit (credited towards your program fee)

Upon receipt of your application, a Cultural Embrace coordinator will contact you for a 20-30 minutes phone interview. Once we accept you in to our program, you will receive an invoice for the remainder of your program fee. In order for us to contact our local partners to start your placement process, we require at least 50% of your program.

We recommend submitting your application and program fee at least 12-16 weeks prior to your desired start date in order for us to organize and arrange your adventure abroad.

*Cultural Embrace requires an expedited application fee for those applying 6 weeks or less before the desired date of departure. Applications received 4-6 weeks prior to desired departure date will be charged $150. Applications received less than 4 weeks before the desired departure date will be charged $250.
