2009 ARGENTINA Language Exchange Program

Introduction

Cultural Embrace offers an unique and affordable opportunity to get to know another culture while sharing a bit of your own.  Teach in Argentina offers a different way to experience the country by teaching English (French, German, Chinese, and other foreign languages accepted) to a local family in Argentina. This is a wonderful and affordable opportunity to teach and learn, share and promote intercultural exchanges in a country rich in culture, heritage, history and tradition.

Teaching experience and Spanish language knowledge are helpful, but not required. You will be teaching the family about 15 hours/week, usually in the late afternoon/evenings when the children are home from school. Your tasks will be to teach English (or another applicable foreign language), and are not there to babysit or work as an au pair. However, be prepared like many of the past participants, to get involved and feel like a family member! Plus, this will be a fabulous chance to learn and practice your Spanish and tango skills!

Cultural Embrace also offers an optional 20-units online TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) course if you would like to brush up on your language skills and learn more about lesson planning and teaching. This course has been designed for maximum flexibility, allowing you to work on your own computer at your own pace. The course has two main components:  Teaching Skills and Language Awareness. The Teaching Skills component develops the techniques and skills required in the classroom, while the Language Awareness component provides a solid foundation in English grammar. Alternatively, you can take a 4-week certification program in an internationally recognized TEFL course.  These courses are located in China, Thailand, New Zealand, Egypt, France, Spain, Italy, and Costa Rica.  There is an extra fee for taking these courses and accommodations can be pre-arranged.

Your host family will be carefully selected through our local partners.  These families have been chosen taking in to account that they are culturally sensitive and have a genuine motivation to share their culture and home, and to learn the participant's mother tongue.  They will open their homes to bring in another world, exchange and share customs and ideas and create friendships that last a lifetime.
