Cultural Embrace can arrange an internship placement for you in locations across Ecuador: in the highlands, the coast, the Amazon region or in the Galapagos islands.  The placements are offered year round in fields such as architecture, business, dentistry, medicine, hospitality and tourism, social work, interior design, law, IT, real estate, marketing and public relations, education and media. 

The minimum duration for this internship program is 8 weeks. You must have an basic to intermediate level of Spanish or higher. You might have to take a proficiency test prior to your placement, and if you need additional lessons to get your language skills up to par, we can arrange optional Spanish classes. Most internships are NOT paid due to legal visa regulations, however a bonus could be offered at the discretion of the company.

Cultural Embrace Offers:

Cultural Embrace
 guarantees an internship offer that matches your requested field of interest. Placement confirmed based on employer’s approval prior to departure. 
·         Housing
Your program fee includes housing with a carefully selected and screened host family. You will stay in a private room on the mainland, or shared room (with another foreign student) in the Galapagos Islands (depends on placement and season). We can also assist in the booking of private rooms or rental apartments for an additional charge.   
·         Meals
Three meals a day, seven days a week are provided by the host family (except on Isabela island where there is no lunch or dinner on Sundays).
·         Arrival Assistance 
Airport pickup and transfer included in program fees. Return transfers to the airport may be organized before or while in Ecuador for an additional fee.
·         Travel Insurance:  Basic Major Medical Coverage 
Our policy includes basic medical coverage. Cultural Embrace highly recommends additional traveler’s insurance, which is available at extra cost.
·         Visa Assistance
Cultural Embrace
will assist you with information to obtain a visa from Ecuadorian immigration (if necessary), but we have no ability to guarantee government issuance and/or visa availability.

        Cultural Embrace provides bi-lingual representation in the US and Ecuador prior to, during, and after your placement.

Program Requirements

In order to participate in the intern programs, Cultural Embracerequires that you:

·         Be 18-30 years of age
·         Have experience or education in field of internship
·         Enjoy providing a service and working with others in a challenging environment 
·         Intermediate/advanced level of Spanish (additional classes available)
·         Be open to foreign cultures and living abroad
·         Possess a high level of responsibility
·         Be dedicated to the full term of commitment 
·         Provide us with a criminal background check

2010 Program Fees

8 weeks:            $2300

Extra week:     $250/wk
 
Spanish class: $10/hour

How to Apply

1. Obtain the Intern Abroad Application Forms & Procedures documents in one of three ways:

(a) Download the forms:  Intern Application (pdf).   Intern in Ecuador Program Details and FAQ (pdf).

(b) Fill out an online application request form and the forms will be e-mailed to you within 2-3 days.

(c) Call Cultural Embrace at 1-512-469-9089 or 1-888-214-8570 (US toll-free) to have the forms mailed to you in 7-10 days. 

2. Read the instructions carefully and complete all forms.

3. Submit your completed application packet to:

Completed packet should include: 

  • Intern Program Application
  • Signed Work/Intern Agreement
  • Copy of your passport (information page only)
  • University/College transcript (official please)
  • Copies of diploma or certificates related to field of interest (if applicable)
  • Resume/CV
  • Cover Letter explaining why you want to work in Ecuador
  • Two References: preferably professional and/or character references
  • Doctor’s Certificate verifying that you are in excellent mental and physical health
  • Copy of Police Clearance (obtainable from your community's local police station) 
  • Four 1½" x 2" official passport-size photos, signed on the back
  • One smiling full-length photo of yourself
  • US$200 non-refundable deposit (credited towards your program fee) 

Upon receipt of your application, a Cultural Embrace coordinator will contact you for a 20-30 minute phone interview. Once we accept you in to our program, you will receive an invoice for the remainder of your program fee. In order for us to contact our local partners to start your placement process, we require at least 50% of your program fee.

We recommend submitting your application and program fee at least 16-20 weeks prior to your desired start date in order for us to organize and arrange your internship.

 

*Cultural Embrace requires an expedited application fee for those applying 16 weeks or fewer before the desired date of departure. Applications received 12-16 weeks prior to desired departure date will be charged $150. Applications received fewer than 12 weeks before the desired departure date will be charged $250.
