Introduction

Want a chance to live abroad, so you may work on your language skills, learn about a new culture and have a fun and exciting adventure abroad? Cultural Embrace offers a fun opportunity to help you reach these goals in a cost-efficient, unforgettable way! With our Language Exchange program, you will be placed with a host family and teach them English, or your native tongue, for about 15 hours per week in exchange for a private room in their home and full board. Choose from awesome destinations in Brazil, France, Italy, Peru, Spain, and Thailand. This experience will earn you a chance to make life-long friends, explore the culture from an authentic and immersive angle, and work on your own language skills in the meantime! With durations from one to three months, pre-screened, enthusiastic host families, and our pre-departure and local support, the Language Exchange program offers an experience of two lifetimes!

Cultural Embrace Includes:
- Guaranteed Host Family Placement Prior to Departure
Cultural Embrace provides you with a host family profile that matches your language level, goals, and preferences prior to your departure date. All host families are pre-screened and most have a past in hosting international students or other cultural exchanges. You will teach English or your native language (ie: French, German, Italian, Spanish, etc.) to your local host family for approximately 15 hours/week.
- Accommodations and Full Board
You will receive a private room in your host family’s home, as well as 3 meals per day, 6 days per week as compensation for your services.
- Arrival Assistance
Most families will be more than happy to pick you up from the airport. In instances where this is not possible, Cultural Embrace will provide you with detailed public transportation directions, or optional private airport pick-up is available for additional fees.
- Visa Assistance
Participants may stay up to 90 days and travel on a tourist visa. Please contact the local foreign Embassy or Consulate to check details, or ask your CE coordinator. Please note that any visa fees are the responsibility of the applicant. And, while we can assist you during the process, ultimately it is your responsibility to ensure that you have obtained the appropriate visa for your work experience. Cultural Embrace has no control over the visa process and cannot guarantee that your visa application will be accepted.
- International Traveler’s Insurance with Basic Major Medical Coverage
Cultural Embrace includes basic traveler’s insurance with medical coverage. Additional policies and premium plans are available at extra cost.
- Cultural Embrace “Cultural Kit”
Before your departure, Cultural Embrace will send you material filled with useful tips, advice, information, and your insurance card to prepare you for the amazing adventure of living and teaching abroad.
- Full-time Representation
Cultural Embrace provides representation in the United States and your host country prior to, during, and after your placement.
- Optional Online TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) Course
This course teaches the skills and techniques required for successful language instruction and classroom preparation. It is a 20-unit course that may be completed at your leisure, requiring approximately 100-120 hours of attention. You will receive a TEFL certificate upon course completion.

Program Requirements

- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Be competent and fluent with your native language. English is most often requested from local families, but other languages can be arranged too.
- Elementary knowledge of host country’s language helpful but NOT required.
- Have earned a high school diploma or certificate.
- Enjoy tutoring/teaching children or adults
- Good lesson planning and organization skills
- Be a non-smoker, or willing not to smoke in the host family’s home
- Flexibility to embrace foreign cultures and living abroad
- Responsible and dedicated to full-term of commitment
- Criminal background check may be required by some positions

How to Apply
1. Obtain the Teach Abroad Application Forms & Procedures documents in one of three ways:
(a) Download the forms: Teach Application (pdf) and Language Exchange Details and FAQ (pdf).
(b) Fill out an online application request form and the forms will be e-mailed to you within 2-3 days.
(c) Call Cultural Embrace at 1-512-469-9089 or Skype: Cultural.Embrace to have the forms mailed to you in 3-5 days.
2. Read the instructions carefully and complete all forms.
3. Submit your completed application packet to:

Completed packet should include:
- Teach Program Application
- Signed Teach Program Agreement
- Resume/CV
- Cover Letter explaining why you want to teach abroad
- Transcript/copy of degree
- Copy of your passport (information page only)
- Two Letters of Recommendations (your referrer can send it directly to us via post or email)
- Medical report verifying physical and mental health
- Police background check
- Two passport-size photos
- One full-length picture
- US$250 non-refundable deposit (credited towards your program fee)
Program Dates
1-3 month placements available; start anytime. Please apply 3 months prior to desired start date.
Upon receipt of your application, we will contact you for ~20-30 minute phone interview to learn more about your skills, experience, needs, etc; and to discuss the program details and expectations. After acceptance to our program, we will invoice you the remainder of the program fee.
*Cultural Embrace requires an expedited application fee for those applying 12 weeks or fewer before the desired date of departure. Applications received 8-12 weeks prior to your desired departure date will be charged $150. Applications received fewer than 8 weeks before the desired departure date will be charged $250.
Upon receipt of full program fee enrollment, your placement will be confirmed by email including the following information: teach abroad placement and confirmation date, details of host family (address, family members, house rules), details of the community, hours of teaching per week, start and end dates, geographic characteristics of the host community location.
